Mr. Poston was born in Columbus, Ohio and attended Bethany College, West Virginia.
Studies were interrupted with the advent of WWII. Tom enlisted in the Air Corps, when the US joined the Allied Forces in 1941 as a Buck Private. He left in 1945 as a Captain. Tom trained in California, Arizona and Texas. He served in North Africa, Italy, France and England. He was present, flying on D-Day (to name one important sortie), dropping para-troopers (the preliminary forces) toD-Day. Tom won an Air Medal for his contribution to D-Day, and in Southern France, subsequently won two more Oak leaf Medals, thereby resulting in an "Oak Leaf Cluster" of Medals.

Tom was accepted, enrolled and studying at Bethany College when War broke out. While the war ended his studies there permanently, Tom was awarded an Honorary Doctorate as a Doctor of Letters, September 13, 1990, by Bethany in honor of his lifetime education, accomplishments and contributions.
After the War, Tom enrolled in "The American Academy of Dramatic Arts" in New York City, from which he graduated. The actors/directors/teachers he studied and worked with who had the greatest impact on him were Charles Jehlinger, Sanford Meisner, Paton Price and Frank Pacelli.
